Gupta Empire, as realized, 320-550
Ancient / Classical · realized scope
The Gupta Empire was a polity centered in the Indian subcontinent, organized under a succession of rulers bearing the title Maharajadhiraja. It existed from approximately 320 CE to 550 CE, with its territorial core in the Gangetic plain and periodic extensions across much of northern and central South Asia. It is principally associated with a period of Sanskrit literary and scholarly output, the codification of Hindu legal and astronomical texts, and the patronage of temple construction.
