Ashoka (Mauryan Empire), as realized, 268-232 BCE
Ancient / Classical · realized scope
The Mauryan Empire under Ashoka was an imperial administration centered at Pataliputra in the Indian subcontinent, governed by Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty. It operated from approximately 268 to 232 BCE across a territory spanning much of the Indian subcontinent, parts of present-day Afghanistan, and surrounding regions. It is principally associated with the issuance of the Edicts of Ashoka, a series of inscriptions on pillars and rock faces promulgating policies derived from Dhamma, and with state patronage of Buddhism.
