Muhammad ibn Abdullah was an Arabian merchant from Mecca who became the founder of Islam and the head of the political and religious community established at Medina. He lived from approximately 570 CE until 632 CE, operating primarily in the Hijaz region of the Arabian Peninsula, with the Medinan period running from 622 CE to his death in 632 CE. He is principally associated with the compilation of the Quran, the foundational legal and social structures of the early Muslim community, and the unification of Arabian tribes under a single polity.
