Solidarity (Polish: Solidarność) was a trade union federation established in Poland in 1980, originating at the Gdańsk Shipyard under the leadership of Lech Wałęsa. It operated within the Polish People's Republic and became the first independent trade union in a Soviet-bloc country, later developing into a broader social movement encompassing millions of members across Poland.
