Medieval · realized scope
The Tawantinsuyu was a pre-Columbian state centered in the Andes of South America, governed by a hereditary ruler known as the Sapa Inca. It existed from approximately 1438 until the Spanish conquest concluded in 1533, spanning territories across present-day Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia. It is principally associated with an administrative structure organized into four regional divisions, an extensive road network, and a system of labor taxation known as mit'a.
